HOW TO CHANGE

+ Reusable bottles & lunch boxes

My personal experience:
Since I have moved to the Netherlands, I have forgotten what it means to buy plastic bottles to carry around when I feel thirsty.
Back in time, when I used to live in Italy, it was part of my routine of drinking water from the bottles that you buy at th grocery store mainly for one big reason: the tap water had too much limestone. This type of habit was instrinsic in my everyday life. To be honest, I believe that I got used to the situation and I did not think about the consequences enough because I was following the crowd withouth being aware what it meant both for myself and the environment.

If you experienced the same or you feel you are in this situation at the moment wherever you are, no problem! There is a solution to every problem and therefore also for you and the environment around you while keeping it affordable for your pocket!

+ Homemade Food & Long-lasting Foods in your cabinet

We all love to try different tastes, foods and cuisines. They surprise us everytime especially when we want to comfort ourselves after a long day.

What I have experienced: When I started university, as a new student, I was exploring the classrooms, halls, food courts and the campus. While doing this during the some breaks from lessons, I got used to grab a simple lunch or snack around the area.
I loved the food but I also troubled with keeping my expenses under control for the first two months. I realised in fact, that I entered a routine that was basically damaging me. I was convenient, by that I mean I got used to buy food rather then cooking because I had no ‘time’.

Well, I had some time during my day but I rather spent it on studying and/or doing other activities than preparing my food in advance. This situation went on and on until one day, while browsing the web I discovered easy, healthy and fast recipes to prepare at home, even under my weekly budget! I don’t deny that finding new inspiration of what to cook, what ingredients to have and how to combine them together helped a lot on having fresh and quality food during the time at the campus!

If you are unsure what to cook and how, don’t worry you can easily find some inspiration from these recipes that I have shared with you in the last weeks to eat at the unviersity.

What to include in your shopping list:

  • Dried legumes = Optimal ingredient that takes care of your budget, due to its affordability and the amount of it gives us the opportunity to prepare multiple recipes during the week.
  • Couscous= Incredibly easy and fast ingredient to have as a side dish or as part of a main meal. Due to its cooking time which is just of 5 minutes, this ingredient allows us to prepare large meals with less than 2 euros per pack!
  • Frozen veggies = they are our saviors in those days when we don’t have a lot in our cabinet. Peas, beans, pumpkin and etc, are the must-have ingredients that can be used as an ingredient in a recipe or simply as a sidedish.

Buying these ingredients which can be used multiple times in the kitchen at home thanks to their fantastic long preservation, we will be able to eat freshly-made dishes and waste less packaging and save the environment from a huge quantity of trash waste that it is already damaging the earth.
